Chương 1

""The first sound Clara heard was the cold echo of metal striking against metal.

Her eyes opened wider as the harsh fluorescent lights above the garage blurred through the water dripping from her face.

She could barely move inside the round steel tub, and every breath felt heavier than the last.

The ropes around her wrists cut into her skin, while the gray tape across her mouth kept her from screaming for help.

Across from her, Daniel stood frozen near the garage doorway, unable to understand the scene unfolding in front of him.

He had come looking for answers, but he never expected to find Clara trapped and terrified.

The man beside the tub, Victor Hale, looked nothing like the calm businessman Daniel remembered from years before.

His face was tense, his jaw locked, and his eyes carried the weight of anger that had been building for far too long.

The industrial garage around them felt strangely silent despite the humming lights and the distant sound of dripping water.

A black luxury car sat beneath the shadows in the background, reflecting pieces of the chaotic scene across its polished surface.

Victor grabbed the edge of the tub and leaned closer.

The sudden movement made Clara flinch, and water spilled over the metal rim onto the wet concrete floor.

Daniel stepped forward instinctively, his expression changing from confusion to disbelief.

He had seen arguments before.

He had seen people lose control.

But he had never seen someone look so afraid while another person demanded answers.

Victor slammed his palm against the metal beside Clara’s head.

The sharp impact echoed through the garage.

Clara’s shoulders tightened, and her eyes filled with panic as she stared at Daniel.

“Tell me the truth, now,” Victor said in a low voice.

Daniel felt a cold feeling run through him.

He had known Victor for years, but this was a side of him he had never witnessed.

The man who once appeared disciplined and respected was now standing over a helpless woman as if he had forgotten every line he should never cross.

Clara tried to speak, but the tape only allowed frightened sounds to escape.

Her breathing became faster.

Her eyes moved between the two men, silently begging someone to stop this.

Daniel walked closer.

“What are you doing to her?” he demanded.

Victor turned his head slowly.

For a moment, neither man moved.

The only sound was Clara’s uneven breathing and the faint movement of water inside the tub.

“You don’t know what happened,” Victor said.

Daniel looked at Clara.

Then he looked back at Victor.

“I know enough.”

Victor’s expression hardened.

“You have no idea what she did.”

Daniel shook his head.

“No matter what happened, this is not justice.”

The words hung in the air.

Victor stepped away from the tub and moved toward Daniel.

His footsteps pressed against the wet floor, each one sounding louder than the last.

Daniel remained where he was.

He was nervous, but he refused to move aside.

Years earlier, he had watched people stay silent when someone needed help.

He had promised himself he would never become one of those people.

Victor stopped inches away from him.

“You think you understand everything because you walked in at the worst moment.”

Daniel stared directly at him.

“I understand that she is scared.”

Victor looked back toward Clara.

For a brief second, something changed in his expression.

It was not anger.

It was hesitation.

But the moment disappeared quickly.

“She destroyed my family,” Victor said.

Daniel noticed the pain hidden beneath the rage.

This was not only anger.

There was grief.

There was betrayal.

There was something much older buried underneath.

But none of that explained the ropes.

None of that explained the fear in Clara’s eyes.

“Then tell me what happened,” Daniel said.

Victor laughed quietly, but there was no humor in it.

“You really want the truth?”

Clara suddenly reacted.

Her eyes widened.

She shook her head violently.

Daniel noticed immediately.

Something about that reaction felt important.

Victor saw it too.

“You see?” he said.

“She knows.”

Daniel turned toward Clara.

The woman inside the tub looked exhausted, but behind her fear was something else.

Regret.

Daniel moved closer.

“What is she supposed to know?”

Victor remained silent.

The silence itself became an answer.

Daniel looked around the garage.

The red toolbox.

The blue car lift.

The black vehicle parked behind them.

Everything felt carefully arranged.

Like this moment had been planned.

“You brought her here for a reason,” Daniel said.

Victor looked away.

“She needed to remember.”

“Remember what?”

Victor’s hands tightened into fists.

“The night my brother died.”

The garage became completely still.

Daniel had heard stories about Victor’s brother.

Everyone had.

A tragic accident years ago that destroyed an entire family.

But nobody knew the full details.

Clara closed her eyes.

A tear mixed with the water running down her cheek.

Daniel noticed.

“She was there?”

Victor nodded slowly.

“She was the last person who saw him alive.”

Daniel looked at Clara.

The woman who had been silent until now suddenly looked less like a victim hiding a secret and more like someone carrying a burden she had never escaped.

Victor stepped closer again.

Daniel immediately raised his arm to block him.

“Stay back.”

Victor stared at him.

“You are protecting someone who ruined everything.”

Daniel answered quietly.

“I am protecting someone who cannot protect herself.”

Victor pushed forward.

Daniel grabbed his arm.

The movement was sudden but controlled.

Both men struggled for balance on the wet concrete.

Victor was stronger, but Daniel refused to let go.

Their shoes slid slightly across the floor.

The sound of their struggle echoed between the white walls.

Clara watched helplessly.

She wanted to warn them.

She wanted to explain.

But the tape kept her trapped in silence.

Victor pulled his arm free and stepped back.

His breathing became heavier.

Daniel stood between him and the tub.

For the first time since entering the garage, Victor no longer controlled the entire room.
