Chương 4

Robert looked back.

“Yes.”

“Where?”

The older man reached into the folder and removed another document.

“He has been living under a different name.”

Victor took the paper.

His eyes moved across the page.

Then his expression changed.

“He was here.”

Daniel stepped closer.

“What do you mean?”

Victor looked around the garage.

His eyes stopped on the black luxury car.

“He owned this building.”

Robert nodded.

“Years ago.”

Victor slowly turned toward the back area of the garage.

The place suddenly felt different.

Every corner seemed to hold a memory.

Every object seemed connected to a secret.

Daniel noticed something near the red toolbox.

A small metal box hidden behind it.

He walked over.

“What is this?”

Victor stared.

“I have never seen that before.”

Daniel pulled it out carefully.

The box was old.

Covered with dust.

A small lock hung from the front.

Robert’s expression changed.

“Where did you find that?”

“Behind the toolbox.”

Robert moved closer.

“That was not there during my investigation.”

Victor looked at Clara.

“Did you know about it?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

Daniel examined the box.

“There has to be a key.”

Victor looked around.

Then he suddenly stopped.

His eyes moved toward an old shelf near the car lift.

“There.”

A small key hung from a hook.

Nobody noticed it before.

Victor walked toward it slowly.

He removed the key.

For a second, he stood there holding it.

The key looked ordinary.

But everyone knew it could unlock something that had been hidden for decades.

Victor returned to the box.

He inserted the key.

The lock opened with a quiet click.

Inside were several items.

Old documents.

A broken watch.

A handwritten letter.

And a small recording device.

Daniel looked at Robert.

“This was hidden here all this time.”

Robert picked up the letter carefully.

His face became serious.

“What does it say?”

Robert unfolded it.

The handwriting was familiar.

Victor noticed immediately.

“That’s my brother’s handwriting.”

Nobody spoke.

Robert read the first line silently.

Then he looked at Victor.

“What?”

Robert swallowed.

“Your brother knew.”

Victor stepped closer.

“Knew what?”

Robert held the letter tightly.

“He knew someone was trying to frame Clara.”

Victor looked toward Clara.

She covered her mouth with her hand.

Daniel felt the weight of the discovery.

All those years.

All that suffering.

And the answer had been hidden inside the same place where everything began.

Victor reached for the letter.

His hands trembled as he read the words.

The first sentence was enough to break the last piece of certainty he had left.

“If anything happens to me, Clara is not the person you should blame.”

Victor stopped breathing.

The garage became silent.

Then another sound came from the recording device inside the box.

A faint click.

The battery was still alive.

Everyone turned toward it.

And then they heard a voice from the past.

A voice that none of them expected.

“Victor, if you are hearing this, it means I failed to stop him.”

Victor’s face went pale.

Because he recognized the voice immediately.

It was his brother.

And he was about to reveal the truth that had destroyed them all.

It was his brother.

And he was about to reveal the truth that had destroyed them all.

The recording device continued to crackle as everyone stood motionless around it.

For Victor, the sound of his brother’s voice was something he never thought he would hear again.

His hands tightened around the old recording device.

His eyes remained fixed on the small machine as if looking away would make the voice disappear.

“Victor,” the recording continued.

“If you found this, then you finally know that the story you were told was never the whole truth.”

Victor closed his eyes.

A thousand memories rushed through his mind.

His brother’s smile.

His final phone call.

The funeral.

The years spent blaming Clara.

Every moment suddenly felt uncertain.

Daniel looked at Clara.

She was crying silently.

Not from fear this time.

From hearing the voice of someone she had lost long ago.

The recording continued.

“I know you think Clara betrayed me.”

Victor looked at her.

“She didn’t.”

The words cut through him.

Victor stepped back slowly.

“No.”

His voice was barely audible.

His brother continued speaking.

“She tried to help me.”

The garage remained completely silent.

Even the sounds outside seemed distant.

Victor looked at Robert.

“Why didn’t I know about this?”

Robert looked down.

“Because someone made sure you never heard it.”

Victor turned back toward the recording.

The voice continued.

“Dad was hiding something.”

Victor’s face changed.

The pain in his expression became deeper.

“My father.”

The recording continued.

“He was involved with things I should have never discovered.”

Daniel watched Victor carefully.

The man who had entered the garage with certainty now looked like someone watching his entire life collapse.

“I found documents,” the recording said.

“Financial records.”

Victor listened closely.

“Proof that Ethan was helping him cover everything.”

Robert nodded slowly.

“That explains the photograph.”

Victor looked at him.

His brother’s voice continued.

“Clara found out because she saw the documents.”

Clara lowered her head.

“She tried to protect me.”

Victor looked toward her.

“She knew?”

Clara nodded slowly.

“I found some papers in your father’s office.”

Her voice was quiet.

“He came to me because he knew someone was watching him.”

Victor listened.

His brother’s recorded voice continued.

“I told Clara to stay away.”

A pause followed.

Then the voice became softer.

“But she refused.”

A tear fell from Clara’s face.

“She was the only person who believed me.”

Victor looked at her.

All the anger he had carried for years suddenly had nowhere to go.

The person he had blamed had actually been the person his brother trusted most.

The recording continued.

“If something happens to me, Ethan will try to erase everything.”

Robert looked toward the garage entrance.

“The person who came here that night.”

Victor nodded slowly.

“Ethan.”

May you like

The recording continued.

“Do not trust anyone who tells you Clara caused this.”
