Chương 3

The kind of presence that filled the room before the person even spoke.
"Find my daughter."
Daniel looked down at the little girl.
His eyes widened.
Daughter.
The word echoed in his mind.
The girl was not just someone missing.
She belonged to someone powerful.
Someone who had an entire group searching for her.
The little girl heard the word too.
Her face changed.
She looked terrified.
Daniel noticed.
That fear told him more than the word itself.
Whoever this man was, the girl did not feel safe around him.
The footsteps came closer.
Daniel stayed hidden.
The girl remained pressed against him.
Then something unexpected happened.
A small sound came from the entrance.
A phone ringing.
Everyone stopped.
The men looked around.
Daniel slowly realized the sound was coming from near the entrance.
One of the searchers pulled out a phone and answered.
"Yes."
A pause.
His expression changed.
"Understood."
He ended the call.
"The boss wants everyone outside."
The men exchanged confused looks.
"But we were close."
"He said now."
No one argued.
Within seconds, the warehouse began emptying.
Daniel waited.
He did not move.
He did not trust that they were truly gone.
The footsteps faded.
The engines started again.
The headlights disappeared into the darkness.
Only then did Daniel finally release the breath he had been holding.
The girl looked up at him.
"They're gone," he whispered.
But she did not look relieved.
Instead, tears formed in her eyes.
Daniel gently touched her shoulder.
"What is your name?"
She hesitated.
For a long moment, she said nothing.
Then she whispered a single word.
"Lily."
Daniel nodded slowly.
"Lily."
He repeated the name carefully, as if making sure she knew he remembered.
"My name is Daniel."
The girl stared at him.
"You don't know who my father is."
Daniel looked toward the empty entrance.
"No."
She swallowed.
"That's why you helped me."
Daniel frowned slightly.
"What do you mean?"
Lily looked down.
"Everyone knows him."
The fear returned to her voice.
"They're scared of him."
Daniel stayed quiet.
He had no idea what kind of world he had stepped into.
But he knew one thing.
A child should never look this afraid when talking about her own father.
Outside, the cold wind continued moving through the broken walls.
The night was far from over.
And somewhere beyond the abandoned warehouse, a powerful man was searching for the daughter he thought he had lost.
The man searching for Lily was not someone Daniel had ever heard of before that night.
But the fear in the voices of those men told him enough.
This was someone with influence.
Someone whose name carried weight.
Someone who could make people leave an abandoned warehouse with a single command.
Daniel looked at the little girl sitting beside him.
She seemed impossibly small compared to the danger surrounding her.
Her coat was too thin.
Her shoes were damaged.
Her hands were still cold.
Yet somewhere beyond those broken walls, an entire group of people was searching for her.
"How long have you been here?" Daniel asked quietly.
Lily looked toward the floor.
"I don't know."
"Since yesterday?"
She shook her head.
"Longer."
Daniel felt his expression change.
Longer.
A child had been alone in this place for longer than one night.
He looked around the warehouse again, seeing it differently now.
The empty corners.
The old blankets near the wall.
The small marks on the floor where someone had been sitting.
Lily had not simply wandered in.
She had been surviving here.
"Did someone bring you here?" Daniel asked.
The girl hesitated.
Her fingers tightened around his sleeve.
"I ran away."
Daniel studied her carefully.
"From who?"
Lily did not answer immediately.
Her eyes moved toward the entrance where the men had disappeared.
"From my father."
The words were barely louder than a whisper.
Daniel stayed silent.
He did not want to frighten her by reacting too strongly.
But inside, his mind was trying to understand.
A father searching desperately for his daughter should have made her feel safe.
Instead, the thought of him made her hide in a freezing warehouse.
"Why were you afraid of him?" Daniel asked.
Lily looked away.
"Because people say he owns everything."
Daniel frowned.
"Who says that?"
"Everyone."
The answer came quickly.
Too quickly.
Like she had heard it her whole life.
Daniel gently adjusted the coat around her shoulders.
"Your father hurt you?"
Lily's eyes filled with uncertainty.
"No."
She paused.
"But he hurts other people."
The words settled heavily between them.
Daniel had no idea what was true.
He only knew that a frightened child was sitting in front of him, and she believed she had nowhere else to go.
A distant sound interrupted them.
Daniel turned his head.
An engine.
Again.
His body immediately tensed.
The vehicles had returned.
Lily grabbed his hand.
"They found us."
Daniel looked toward the entrance.
The headlights slowly appeared through the broken windows.
But this time, only one vehicle arrived.
No group.
No shouting.
No rushing footsteps.
Just silence.
Daniel carefully moved closer to the edge of the hiding place.
He looked outside.
A black luxury vehicle sat near the warehouse entrance.
The door opened.
A man stepped out.
He was older than Daniel expected.
Maybe in his late forties.
His dark coat moved slightly in the cold wind.
He stood completely still for a moment, staring at the warehouse.
There was no panic in his expression.
Only exhaustion.
Like someone who had spent hours searching for something precious.
The men from before stood behind him.
But they stayed quiet.
The man walked inside alone.
Daniel watched carefully.
The man’s eyes moved across the warehouse.
Not like a hunter searching for a target.
Like a father searching for his child.
"Lily."
The voice was low.
Controlled.
But underneath it was something Daniel did not expect.
Pain.
"Lily, I know you're here."
The little girl froze.
Daniel looked down at her.
May you like
She was trembling again.
But this time, it was different.
