“What does he mean?” Daniel asked.
Anna swallowed.
“My mother discovered something about Adrian’s organization.”
Daniel looked back at Adrian.
“What organization?”
Adrian laughed softly.
“Your father really told you nothing.”
Daniel’s patience disappeared.
“Answer me.”
Adrian’s expression hardened.
“For years, your father believed he could expose people more powerful than him.”
“He thought documents and evidence could change the world.”
“But he learned too late that people protect their power better than their secrets.”
Daniel looked at the files.
“What did my father find?”
Adrian stepped closer.
“Enough to destroy families.”
The words echoed through the room.
Daniel thought about the years he spent believing his father had abandoned pieces of their family.
Now he realized those missing pieces were connected to a battle that had started before he was even born.
“You killed Sarah,” Daniel said.
For the first time, Adrian’s expression changed.
A small flash of anger appeared.
“No.”
“Your father made choices that put people in danger.”
Anna stepped forward.
“Don’t listen to him.”
Adrian looked at her.
“Your mother was emotional.”
“She trusted the wrong people.”
Anna’s voice shook.
“My mother trusted my grandfather.”
Adrian smiled coldly.
“And that trust got her hidden away for the rest of her life.”
Daniel noticed something.
Adrian was not denying everything.

“My father left a message.”
Adrian’s eyes immediately moved toward it.

“What did he say?”

“I am afraid of nothing.”
“Then why do you care?”
The question hit harder than Daniel expected.

“You have no idea what you are holding.”
Daniel looked at the recorder.
“Then tell me.”
Adrian remained silent.
That silence was an answer.
Lily quietly moved beside Anna.
Daniel noticed and felt relieved that she was away from the confrontation.
He looked around the hidden room.

Something even Adrian did not know about.
Then Daniel saw the silver key again.
The key attached to the leather string.
He remembered the symbol carved into the wall.
His father had not just hidden documents.

Daniel turned toward the old shelves.
Adrian noticed.
“What are you looking for?”
Daniel did not answer.
He moved through the room, searching carefully.
Behind a row of old files, he found another small lock hidden inside the wall.
The same symbol was carved around it.
Adrian’s expression changed.
“Stop.”
Daniel looked back.
“You know what is behind this.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“Your father was paranoid.”
“No.”
Daniel inserted the key.
“He was prepared.”
The lock opened.
A small compartment appeared.
Inside was a single envelope and a flash drive.
Daniel picked up the envelope first.
His name was written on it.
But this time, the handwriting was different.
It belonged to Sarah.
Daniel opened it carefully.
The first sentence made his heart stop.
“Daniel, if you are reading this, then my father was right.”
Daniel looked at Anna.
Her eyes were already filled with tears.
“She wrote to me?”
Anna shook her head.
“No.”
“She wrote to you.”
Daniel continued reading.
“I know we have never met.”
“But I have known about you my entire life.”
“I know you were my brother.”
“I know your father loved us both.”
Daniel felt tears forming in his eyes.
He had spent years believing he was alone in his family.
But there had always been another part of him hidden somewhere.
“I wanted to find you.”
“But every time I tried, I was warned that contacting you would put you in danger.”
“Your father carried that pain until the end.”
Daniel looked up.
Anna was crying silently.
“She loved you,” Anna whispered.
Daniel looked back at the letter.
The final lines were written differently, as if Sarah had forced herself to finish.
“Adrian Vale will tell you that your father failed.”
“He will tell you Robert caused this pain.”
“But remember this.”
“Your father was not trying to hide the truth.”
“He was trying to protect the person who would finally reveal it.”
Daniel slowly lowered the letter.
“The person who would reveal it.”
He looked at Anna.
Adrian suddenly moved.
He reached toward the flash drive.
Daniel noticed and stepped away.
“No.”
Adrian stopped.
“You do not understand what that contains.”
Daniel held it tightly.
“Then why do you want it?”
Adrian’s silence answered again.
Anna moved closer to Daniel.
“You cannot give that to him.”
Adrian looked at her.
“You have no idea what your grandfather sacrificed.”
Anna’s voice became stronger.
“No.”
“I know exactly what he sacrificed.”
“He sacrificed his own happiness because people like you made the world unsafe.”
The confidence in her voice surprised Daniel.
She was no longer the frightened woman who entered the room.
She was Sarah’s daughter.
The person Robert Carter had spent his life protecting.
Suddenly, a loud crash came from above.
The mansion shook.
Adrian looked toward the ceiling.
Someone else had arrived.
Daniel realized Adrian was not alone.
“You brought people with you.”
Adrian looked at him.
“I came prepared.”
Anna whispered.
“We have to leave.”
Daniel looked at the files, the letter, and the flash drive.

He could run.
He could hide.
Or he could finally finish what his father started.
Daniel placed the flash drive inside his jacket.
“We are not leaving.”
Anna looked surprised.
“Daniel.”

“He did it because he believed someone would eventually be brave enough to finish it.”
