Chương 1

"The first note of the wedding march had barely faded when the doors of the grand ballroom opened and every conversation stopped.

Emily Carter stood beneath the crystal chandeliers, holding a bouquet of white roses that trembled slightly in her hands.

For months, she had imagined this moment as the beginning of a perfect life.

The marble floor reflected the golden lights above her, the flowers around the altar looked like they belonged in a dream, and hundreds of guests watched with smiles as she prepared to marry the man she believed she trusted completely.

But the dream lasted only a few seconds longer.

A small figure appeared at the entrance of the ballroom.

A little girl in a simple white flower-girl dress stood there alone, her tiny shoulders shaking as she looked across the room.

The music slowly faded.

The guests turned in confusion.

Emily stared at the child, unable to understand why the little girl looked so familiar.

The girl took a few slow steps forward, tears rolling down her cheeks.

Then she looked directly at Emily and whispered, "Mommy... you promised you would never leave me again."

The bouquet slipped lower in Emily's hands.

Her breathing stopped for a moment.

The entire room disappeared around her as those words echoed through her mind.

Mommy.

A word she had not heard spoken to her in five years.

A word that belonged to a past she thought had been buried forever.

Emily looked at the little girl’s face again, searching for something she could not believe was real.

The same brown eyes.

The same small smile.

The same tiny scar above her eyebrow.

A memory she had spent years trying to forget suddenly came rushing back.

The hospital room.

The rain outside the window.

The doctor’s broken expression.

The night she was told her daughter had not survived.

"No..." Emily whispered.

The guests exchanged confused glances.

Some leaned closer, trying to understand the impossible scene unfolding before them.

The groom, Alexander Reed, stood beside the altar wearing a black tuxedo, his expression carefully controlled.

But Emily noticed something that made her heart drop.

He was not surprised.

He already knew.

The realization hit harder than the little girl’s words.

Emily slowly turned toward him.

Her eyes filled with disbelief.

"Alex?" she asked quietly.

He did not answer.

The silence between them was louder than any argument.

The little girl reached for Emily with trembling hands.

Emily dropped the bouquet completely and rushed forward.

She fell to her knees on the marble floor and pulled the child into her arms.

The little girl cried against her wedding dress, holding onto the fabric like she was afraid Emily would disappear again.

Emily closed her eyes as tears fell down her face.

She held the child tightly, feeling the warmth of someone she had mourned for years.

"My baby..." she whispered.

The ballroom remained frozen.

No one moved.

No one spoke.

The elegant wedding celebration had transformed into something far more painful.

A secret was being revealed in front of everyone.

Emily looked over the child’s shoulder toward Alexander.

Her voice shook.

"Tell me this is not what I think it is."

Alexander slowly walked away from the altar.

His footsteps echoed across the marble floor.

He looked older than he had moments before.

The confidence he carried when he entered the room was gone.

"I wanted to tell you," he said.

Emily stared at him with heartbreak.

"You wanted to tell me?"

Her voice became stronger.

"You stood beside me and watched me believe my daughter was gone."

Alexander lowered his eyes.

The guests watched silently as the truth began to unfold.

Five years earlier, Emily and Alexander had been married for only two months when their lives changed forever.

Their daughter, Lily, was born during a difficult delivery.

For a short time, their family felt complete.

But after a terrible accident during a storm, Emily was told that Lily had died.

Alexander disappeared for several days afterward.

When he returned, he was a different person.

He refused to talk about what happened.

He refused to answer questions.

And Emily, broken by grief, eventually believed there was nothing left to uncover.

But there was a truth hidden beneath the pain.

A truth Alexander had carried alone.

The little girl in Emily’s arms was proof that everything she believed about that night had been a lie.

"I thought I was protecting her," Alexander finally said.

Emily looked at him with disbelief.

"Protecting her from what?"

Alexander swallowed hard.

Before he could answer, the ballroom doors opened again.

An older man in a dark suit stepped inside.

Several guests recognized him immediately.

He was known as a powerful businessman who rarely appeared in public.

His expression was serious, but his eyes showed regret.

"Because I made him believe there was no other choice," the man said.

Emily turned toward him.

"Who are you?"

The man walked closer.

"I am the reason your daughter disappeared from your life."

The room filled with whispers.

Emily held Lily closer.

The child buried her face against Emily’s shoulder.

The man stopped a few feet away.

"My name is Richard Reed."

Alexander’s father.

Emily’s face went pale.

The entire wedding had been built around a secret she never knew existed.

Richard looked at Lily with sadness.

"Five years ago, I believed I was saving my family’s future."

Emily’s voice became cold.

"You stole my daughter."

Richard looked down.

"I was wrong."

The words did not erase the pain.

They did not bring back the years Emily lost.

They did not remove the memories of empty bedrooms and unanswered questions.

Emily looked at Lily, then back at the people who had hidden the truth from her.

Her hands tightened around her daughter.

"I spent five years mourning a child who was alive."

Her voice broke.

"I spent five years thinking I had lost her forever."

May you like

No one answered.

Because there was no excuse that could repair that kind of damage.
