Chương 7

Alive.
Victor looked completely shocked.
“This cannot be.”
Richard stared at the screen.
His face had lost all color.
“I was told she died.”
Eleanor slowly turned toward him.
“By whom?”
Richard did not answer.
The question itself revealed enough.
David moved toward the door.
“We need to open it.”
Victor immediately stepped forward.
“No.”
Everyone looked at him.
David’s eyes became cold.
“You do not get to decide that.”
Victor lowered his voice.
“If that woman is really Sarah, then everything changes.”
Eleanor looked at him.
“Everything already changed.”
She walked toward the entrance.
David followed closely.
Richard remained still.
Noah held the old letter against his chest.
The words from his father were still fresh in his mind.
The truth was no longer something hidden in documents.
It was standing outside the door.
When Eleanor opened the mansion entrance, the woman on the other side looked at her.
For several seconds, neither of them moved.
The years between them felt impossible to cross.
Sarah’s eyes filled with tears.
“Eleanor.”
Eleanor struggled to speak.
“How?”
Sarah looked down.
“Because I was never supposed to disappear.”
The words cut deeper than Eleanor expected.
Noah stepped forward.
His voice was small.
“Mom?”
Sarah turned.
The moment she saw him, everything else disappeared.
She covered her mouth.
“Noah.”
The child ran toward her.
She dropped the photograph and fell to her knees.
She held him tightly as if she was afraid someone would take him away again.
“I thought I would never see you again.”
Noah cried into her shoulder.
“I thought you were gone.”
Sarah closed her eyes.
“I know.”
Behind them, everyone watched silently.
Even Victor.
Even Richard.
The reunion was something nobody could interrupt.
After several minutes, Sarah finally looked up.
Her eyes met Eleanor’s.
“I wanted to tell you.”
Eleanor nodded slowly.
“I know.”
“No.”
Sarah shook her head.
“You don’t.”
The sadness in her voice made everyone listen.
“I wanted to come back many times.”
Eleanor looked confused.
“Then why didn’t you?”
Sarah looked toward Victor.
The answer was immediate.
The room became silent.
Victor’s expression changed.
“You should be careful with accusations.”
Sarah stood.
“I spent thirty years protecting your secret.”
David stepped closer.
“What secret?”
Sarah looked at Noah.
Then at Eleanor.
“Michael was not killed because he discovered the company’s financial problems.”
Richard looked shocked.
“Then what?”
Sarah took a deep breath.
“He discovered Victor was planning to take control of everything.”
Victor laughed quietly.
“That is absurd.”
Sarah ignored him.
“Michael found documents proving Victor had manipulated accounts and transferred ownership through fake companies.”
Eleanor looked at Victor.
“Is that true?”
Victor remained silent.
Sarah continued.
“When Michael confronted him, Victor threatened him.”
David’s hands tightened.
“And the accident?”
Sarah looked down.
“Victor arranged it.”
The room felt colder.
Richard stepped back.
“No.”
Sarah looked at him.
“You knew.”
Richard shook his head.
“I knew there was a plan.”
His voice broke.
“But I never knew he would kill him.”
Eleanor stared at her brother.
The betrayal hurt more than she expected.
“You helped him.”
Richard looked away.
“I was scared.”
“No.”
Eleanor’s voice became firm.
“You were selfish.”
Richard accepted the words.
Because they were true.
Victor slowly stepped backward.
Everyone noticed.
David blocked the hallway.
“You are not leaving.”
Victor smiled.
“You think this changes anything?”
He looked at Noah.
“The boy is still the key to everything.”
Eleanor stepped in front of Noah.
“No.”
Her voice carried the power everyone remembered.
“But you forgot something.”
Victor looked at her.
“What?”
Eleanor held Sarah’s hand.
“You spent thirty years believing this family was weak.”
She looked at David.
“You were wrong.”
David understood.
The security system.
The cameras.
The recordings.
Everything had been capturing the truth.
The guard rushed in.
“Mrs. Whitmore.”
Everyone turned.
“We recovered the deleted security footage.”
Victor’s expression changed.
David looked at the guard.
“Show us.”
The large monitor in the security room displayed old recordings.
The date was thirty years earlier.
The image quality was poor.
But the voices were clear.
Michael stood in the garden.
A younger Victor stood across from him.
The two men were arguing.
Eleanor watched the screen.
Her hand moved to her chest.
She was seeing her son alive again.
Michael looked angry.
“You cannot do this.”
Victor’s younger voice answered.
“You have no idea what you are risking.”
“I know exactly what I am risking.”
Michael looked toward the camera.
“I am protecting my family.”
The younger Victor stepped closer.
“You always were too emotional.”
Michael shook his head.
“No.”
He smiled sadly.
“I just learned what matters.”
Then Michael looked directly into the camera.
“If anything happens to me, make sure my son knows one thing.”
Everyone froze.
The screen showed Michael placing a small envelope near the garden wall.
“I loved him before I ever saw his face.”
Noah stared at the screen.
His father’s voice filled the room.
“And I loved his mother because she gave me the courage to become someone better.”
Sarah covered her mouth.
Eleanor began crying silently.
The recording continued.
Victor’s voice became threatening.
“You will regret this.”
Michael answered.
“No.”
He looked calm.
“You will.”
The footage ended.
Nobody spoke.
Then the mansion alarm suddenly activated.
A red light flashed across the hallway.
The guard looked at the security panel.
“Someone entered through the east wing.”
David immediately looked at Noah.
But before he could move, Sarah grabbed his arm.
“Wait.”
Everyone turned.
Sarah looked terrified.
“There is something else you need to know.”
She looked at Eleanor.
“Michael was not the only person who left a message.”
Eleanor frowned.
“What do you mean?”
Sarah looked toward the dark hallway.
“Someone else has been protecting Noah all these years.”
A shadow appeared near the entrance.
A familiar voice echoed through the mansion.
“I was hoping I would never have to come back here.”
Eleanor froze.
May you like
Because she knew that voice.
And she knew the person standing in the darkness was the final piece of Michael’s secret.
