Chương 1

""The rain had stopped an hour earlier, but the cold stones of the mansion driveway still carried the memory of the storm.
Emily Carter stood beneath the towering oak trees at the edge of the property, clutching the handles of two large black trash bags that contained everything she had left.
Her blonde hair was slightly messy from the wind, and her pale face showed the exhaustion of someone who had spent too many nights fighting a battle nobody knew existed.
She stared at the enormous mansion in front of her, the place she had once believed would always be her home.
The bright windows reflected the morning sunlight, making the house look warm and welcoming, but Emily felt like a stranger standing outside its gates.
Her fingers tightened around the plastic handles as she tried to stop them from shaking.
She had imagined this moment so many times, but she never imagined she would arrive carrying her entire life in two garbage bags.
The sound of footsteps behind her made her freeze.
Emily slowly turned around and saw a tall man walking down the stone pathway from the mansion.
David Carter looked nothing like the man she remembered from years ago.
He was wearing a perfectly tailored gray suit, his dark hair neatly styled, and his confident appearance showed the power he had built as one of the most successful businessmen in the city.
But the moment he saw the young woman standing alone with those bags, his expression changed completely.
The authority in his eyes disappeared, replaced by confusion and immediate concern.
He slowed his steps as he approached her, studying her face as if he was trying to understand a nightmare unfolding in front of him.
"Who did this to you?" David asked, his deep voice carrying a mixture of fear and anger.
"Why are you standing outside my house with everything you own?"
Emily lowered her eyes because she was afraid that if she looked at him too long, all the pain she had hidden would finally break free.
She opened her mouth to answer, but no words came out.
David noticed the hesitation.
He noticed the bruised emotions behind her silence.
He noticed the way she held herself like someone who had learned not to ask for help.
"Emily," he whispered, recognizing the face he had not seen in years.
The young woman looked up at him, and for a brief moment, neither of them moved.
David remembered a little girl running through this same garden with flowers in her hands.
He remembered a child who used to call him every night before bed.
He remembered a daughter who disappeared from his life after one terrible argument and a series of lies he never understood.
But standing before him now was not the little girl he remembered.
She was a woman who looked broken.
"Why are you here?" David asked softly.
Emily swallowed hard.
Her voice trembled when she finally answered.
"I didn't know where else to go."
David took another step closer.
"Who told you that you couldn't come home?"
Emily looked toward the mansion, and fear crossed her face.
That small reaction told David more than any words could have.
He reached down and gently took one of the heavy bags from her hand.
The bag dropped slightly in his grip because it was filled with old clothes, photographs, and personal belongings that should never have been carried away like trash.
"You were carrying your whole life in these?" he asked quietly.
Emily nodded.
She tried to remain calm, but her breathing became uneven.
"She told me nobody would believe me," Emily whispered.
"She told me that you would choose her over me."
David's expression changed.
The confusion in his eyes slowly turned into disbelief.
"Who told you that?"
Emily looked away.
"She said I was nothing but a problem you regretted creating."
The words struck him harder than he expected.
David had spent years believing that Emily left because she wanted nothing to do with him.
He believed the distance between them was her choice.
He believed the silence was something she wanted.
But now he was beginning to realize that someone had built a wall between them.
A wall made of secrets and manipulation.
"Emily," he said, his voice becoming stronger.
"Look at me."
She slowly raised her eyes.
"You were never a problem."
Her lips trembled.
"You don't know what happened."
David stepped closer.
"Then tell me."
Emily looked down at the ground.
"I tried."
The pain in those two words made David's heart sink.
"I tried so many times."
She wiped a tear from her cheek.
"But every time I called, she answered first."
David went completely still.
"She told me you were busy."
Emily's voice became quieter.
"She told me you didn't want to hear from me."
A wave of anger crossed David's face, but he controlled it.
He did not want Emily to see rage.
He wanted her to see safety.
"You were my daughter," he said.
His voice cracked slightly.
"You were my little girl."
Emily's eyes filled with tears.
"And you thought you had to suffer alone?"
The question broke something inside her.
For years, she had carried the belief that she was unwanted.
For years, she had convinced herself that her father had chosen another life without her.
But now he was standing in front of her looking devastated because he had never known she was hurting.
"I didn't know if you would believe me," she admitted.
David reached out slowly, giving her time to move away if she wanted.
But she did not.
He placed a protective hand on her shoulder.
"I should have known."
The sadness in his voice was deeper than anger.
"I should have looked for you."
Emily finally allowed herself to cry.
Not loudly.
Not dramatically.
May you like
Just quietly, like someone who had been holding back years of pain.
David stood beside her, shielding her from the world that had made her feel abandoned.
