Chương 7

“The decision to hide what I knew.”

The young man shook his head.

“You knew the truth and said nothing?”

“Yes.”

The honesty made the words hurt even more.

“Why?”

The stranger looked at him.

“Because I believed I was protecting you.”

The young man laughed quietly, but there was no happiness in it.

“Everyone says that.”

The words carried years of frustration.

“Everyone says they were protecting me.”

The woman lowered her head.

The uniformed man looked away.

Because they all knew he was right.

The young man continued.

“But nobody ever asked me what I wanted.”

The stranger nodded slowly.

“You are right.”

That answer stopped him for a moment.

The stranger did not fight back.

Did not argue.

Did not try to make himself look better.

“I took away your choice.”

The young man looked at him carefully.

“And I have lived with that mistake every day.”

The hall remained silent.

The stranger reached into a pocket and removed a small envelope.

He placed it on the table beside the photographs.

“This was meant for you.”

The young man stared at it.

“From who?”

The stranger looked toward the person who had arrived earlier.

“From the person who wanted you to have the truth.”

The young man slowly opened the envelope.

Inside was a letter.

The paper was old, but carefully preserved.

He unfolded it with trembling hands.

The first line immediately made his breathing change.

It was written directly to him.

The words were from someone who had loved him deeply.

Someone who wanted him to know that he had never been forgotten.

The young man read silently.

Every sentence felt like a piece of a broken memory returning.

The letter explained fear.

It explained impossible choices.

It explained why people disappeared from his life without giving him answers.

But more than anything, it explained that his existence had always mattered.

The young man lowered the letter.

His eyes were filled with emotion.

The woman watched him carefully.

“Are you okay?”

He looked at her.

“I do not know.”

It was the most honest answer he could give.

He looked toward the stranger.

“I spent years thinking nobody came back for me.”

The stranger’s expression changed.

“We tried.”

The young man shook his head.

“Trying is not the same as being there.”

The words were painful, but necessary.

The stranger accepted them.

“No.”

A long pause followed.

“You are right.”

The young man looked down.

For the first time, he realized the truth was not simple.

There were not only villains and heroes.

There were people who failed.

People who were afraid.

People who made choices that caused pain while believing they were preventing something worse.

But understanding that did not erase what he had lost.

The black dog gently pressed against his leg.

The young man looked down.

A quiet moment passed between them.

The animal reminded him that some connections survived even when people failed.

The young man placed his hand on the dog's head.

“I think you were the only one who never gave up.”

The woman smiled sadly.

“They both waited.”

The young man looked at the two dogs.

“They waited for me?”

“Yes.”

The answer stayed with him.

The stranger looked toward the entrance.

“There is still one more thing.”

The young man sighed.

Another secret.

Another hidden piece.

But this time, he was ready.

“What now?”

The stranger looked serious.

“The person who caused the accident knows we are here.”

The uniformed man immediately looked toward the doors.

The atmosphere changed.

The crowd began noticing the tension.

The dogs lifted their heads again.

Their bodies became focused.

The young man noticed.

“They know someone is coming.”

The woman nodded.

“They always sense danger before we do.”

The young man looked toward the entrance.

A strange calm replaced his fear.

For most of his life, he had been running from unanswered questions.

Now he was standing in front of them.

The doors remained open.

The hall waited.

The stranger moved slightly closer.

“Whatever happens next, you need to remember one thing.”

The young man looked at him.

“What?”

“You are not the person someone tried to erase.”

“You are the person who survived.”

The young man looked at the dogs, the people around him, and the evidence of a past he had finally begun to recover.

For the first time, he believed those words.

Then footsteps echoed from outside the hall.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Getting closer.

Everyone turned toward the entrance.

The young man stood beside the dogs.

And this time, he was not waiting for someone else to reveal his story.

He was ready to face it himself.

The footsteps grew louder until the person outside the hall finally appeared.

The young man watched as a familiar face entered the doorway.

Unlike the others, this person did not look surprised to see everyone gathered together.

They looked prepared.

The young man immediately noticed the confidence in their expression.

The stranger who had just confessed the truth stepped forward slightly.

The woman beside him became tense.

The uniformed man quietly moved closer to the dogs.

The animals remained still, but their attention never left the person who had entered.

The young man understood immediately.

This was the person everyone had been waiting for.

The person connected to the hidden truth.

The newcomer looked around the hall and slowly smiled.

“So this is where you decided to tell him everything.”

The young man felt his anger rise.

“You knew?”

The person looked directly at him.

“Yes.”

The answer was cold and simple.

The young man took a step forward.

“You knew all these years?”

“Yes.”

The silence afterward felt heavier than any accusation.

The person did not deny it.

Did not apologize.

Did not pretend confusion.

That honesty made the moment even more painful.

The woman looked at the young man.

She could see the emotions fighting inside him.

Anger.

Confusion.

Betrayal.

But also relief that the uncertainty was finally ending.

The young man pointed toward the documents on the table.
