Chương 7

“He is alive?”

Maya stared at the photograph.

“I thought he was gone.”

Victor looked at her sadly.

“He never left.”

Daniel felt a cold feeling spread through him.

All the secrets.

All the lies.

All the missing pieces.

They were not random.

They were connected.

Maya looked at Victor.

“You knew?”

Victor nodded.

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

Victor’s expression broke.

“Because your father is the reason Noah was never safe.”

The baby suddenly began crying.

The sound cut through the silence.

Maya immediately held him closer.

Daniel moved beside her.

For the first time, nobody cared about the documents.

Nobody cared about the inheritance.

Everyone looked at the child who had brought them all together.

Victor lowered his voice.

“And now that he knows where Noah is, we do not have much time.”

Daniel looked toward the hospital door.

“Then we leave.”

Maya looked at him.

Daniel held her gaze.

“No more secrets.”

She nodded.

“No more.”

Outside the hospital room, footsteps echoed through the hallway.

Someone was approaching.

And this time, everyone knew the person coming through that door was not searching for answers.

They were coming to take them.

And this time, everyone knew the person coming through that door was not searching for answers.

They were coming to take them.

The footsteps grew louder with every second.

Daniel looked around the room quickly.

The hospital bed, the documents, the newborn, and everyone who had become connected by the secret were suddenly surrounded by uncertainty.

“Everyone stay calm,” Marcus whispered.

But nobody in the room felt calm.

Maya held Noah tightly against her chest.

Her eyes remained fixed on the door.

She had spent months running from the past.

Now the past had finally found her.

Daniel moved closer to her.

This time, he did not hesitate.

He placed himself between Maya and the entrance.

“I am not letting anyone hurt you.”

Maya looked at him.

The fear in her eyes softened for a moment.

Not because the danger had disappeared.

But because she finally knew she was not facing it alone.

Richard quietly moved beside Marcus.

Victor stood near the table, staring at the photograph of Maya’s father.

His expression had changed completely.

The confidence he had shown when he entered the room was gone.

For the first time, he looked afraid.

Daniel noticed.

“You know he is coming.”

Victor slowly nodded.

“Yes.”

“Who is he?”

Victor looked at Maya.

“Your father.”

Maya’s breathing became uneven.

“My father has been gone for years.”

Victor looked down.

“That is what he wanted everyone to believe.”

The door handle moved.

Everyone froze.

Then the door opened.

A man stood outside.

He was older, with gray hair and a serious expression.

He looked calm.

Too calm.

His eyes moved across the room until they stopped on Maya.

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

Then Maya whispered the name she had not said in years.

“Thomas.”

The man smiled faintly.

“I knew you would remember me.”

Daniel felt Maya tense beside him.

He immediately understood.

This was not a reunion.

This was a confrontation.

Thomas walked into the room slowly.

Nobody stopped him.

Not because they trusted him.

Because everyone was waiting to understand his next move.

“I see you found the documents,” Thomas said.

Daniel’s expression hardened.

“You knew about them.”

Thomas looked at him.

“I created them.”

The room went silent.

Eleanor looked shocked.

Richard stepped forward.

“You lied to everyone.”

Thomas looked at him.

“I protected what belonged to my family.”

Maya shook her head.

“You destroyed our family.”

Thomas looked at her.

“You were a child when you thought you understood what happened.”

Maya’s voice became stronger.

“I was old enough to remember you leaving.”

Thomas looked away.

For the first time, his confidence weakened.

Daniel noticed the reaction.

There was history here.

Pain that had never been resolved.

“What do you want?” Daniel asked.

Thomas looked toward Noah.

“I want my grandson.”

Maya immediately stepped back.

“No.”

Thomas looked at her.

“You do not understand.”

“I understand enough.”

“You have been hiding him from me.”

Maya’s eyes filled with anger.

“You abandoned me.”

Thomas became quiet.

The accusation affected him.

But only for a moment.

“I made mistakes.”

“Mistakes?”

Maya’s voice shook.

“You disappeared and left me alone.”

Thomas looked down.

“I thought leaving would keep you safe.”

Nobody believed him.

Daniel spoke.

“Everyone says they were protecting someone.”

His voice was cold.

“But somehow everyone still caused damage.”

The words affected the room.

Because they were true.

Thomas looked at Daniel.

“You are angry.”

“Yes.”

“Good.”

Daniel frowned.

Thomas continued.

“Anger means you care.”

Daniel did not respond.

Thomas looked at Noah again.

“The child is in danger because of what he represents.”

Richard stepped forward.

“You started this.”

Thomas looked at him.

“No.”

Victor spoke quietly.

“He did not.”

Everyone turned toward Victor.

Victor looked at Thomas.

“But you knew what would happen.”

Thomas remained silent.

Daniel looked between them.

“What are you not telling us?”

Victor took a deep breath.

“The documents are not about money.”

Daniel waited.

“They are about a legal agreement.”

“What agreement?”

Victor looked at Noah.

“A promise made before he was born.”

Maya shook her head.

“I never agreed to anything.”

Thomas answered.

“You did not have to.”

Daniel’s eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

Thomas reached into his coat.

Everyone immediately reacted.

Marcus moved forward.

Thomas stopped.

“I am not here to hurt anyone.”

He pulled out a small folder.

He placed it on the table beside the other documents.

“This explains everything.”

Daniel looked at the folder.

“Why should we believe you?”

Thomas looked at him.

“You should not.”

That answer surprised everyone.

Thomas continued.

“You should read it and decide for yourself.”

Maya stared at the folder.

She looked terrified.

Daniel noticed.

“Have you seen this before?”

She slowly shook her head.

“No.”

Eleanor moved closer.

“Then we read it together.”

Nobody objected.

May you like

Daniel opened the folder.

Inside were legal records, old letters, and a document signed years earlier.
