Chương 3

I pressed the screen.

The call connected.

A voice filled the room.

“Good morning.”

Julian froze.

Because he recognized the voice.

It was one of his company’s senior accountants.

The man who had worked with his family for twelve years.

The man who had quietly provided copies of financial records after realizing something was wrong.

Julian stared at my phone.

“How did you get that?”

I ignored him.

The accountant continued speaking.

“I confirm that the transfers shown in the documents were approved through Julian Vance’s personal authorization.”

His father closed his eyes.

His mother looked furious.

Sienna stepped backward.

“You said nobody would find out.”

The entire room turned toward her.

Julian looked shocked.

“What did you just say?”

She realized her mistake too late.

“I did not mean—”

“No.”

Julian’s voice was quiet.

Almost dangerous.

“What did you mean?”

For the first time, Sienna looked afraid of him.

Not because of me.

Because she was finally seeing the person behind the mask.

I ended the call.

The silence afterward was unbearable.

Julian looked at the papers again.

Then at me.

“You planned this.”

“Yes.”

The honesty surprised him.

“You spent months pretending everything was normal?”

“Yes.”

“While you were collecting information?”

“Yes.”

His face became filled with anger.

“You betrayed me.”

The words almost made me laugh.

Almost.

“You are standing in my house with another woman, trying to take my children three days after I gave birth, and you are accusing me of betrayal?”

Nobody answered.

Because there was nothing to say.

Julian looked around at his family.

The people who had followed him into the hospital.

The people who had believed his version of the story.

They were no longer looking at me like I was powerless.

They were looking at him like they were wondering what else he had hidden.

His mother tried to recover control.

“This is a family matter.”

I looked at her.

“No.”

My voice remained calm.

“This stopped being a family matter when you all entered a hospital room and tried to buy my children.”

Her expression hardened.

“You should be careful.”

“I have been careful for six months.”

That sentence made her silent.

Because she finally understood.

Everything they thought happened suddenly had actually been happening for a long time.

Every mistake.

Every conversation.

Every document.

Every lie.

I had been watching.

Waiting.

Preparing.

Julian walked closer.

His anger was mixed with disbelief.

“How did I not know?”

I looked at him.

“Because you stopped seeing me.”

The words hit harder than I expected.

“You saw someone you thought was weak.”

I looked down at Leo and Oliver.

“You saw a tired new mother.”

I looked back at him.

“You never saw someone who was paying attention.”

His eyes moved toward our sons.

For a brief moment, something almost human appeared on his face.

Regret.

Then it disappeared.

Because regret required accepting responsibility.

And Julian had spent too long believing consequences were for other people.

A car horn sounded outside.

Everyone turned toward the window.

Two vehicles had stopped in front of the house.

Julian’s expression changed.

“Who is that?”

I did not answer immediately.

I walked toward the door.

Then I opened it.

Two investigators stood outside with official documents in their hands.

Behind them was my attorney.

Julian stopped breathing for a moment.

His family finally understood.

This was not a conversation.

This was the moment they had been trying to avoid.

My attorney stepped inside.

“Mr. Vance, we need to discuss the documents you submitted and the investigation that has now been opened.”

Julian looked at me.

The anger in his face was gone.

Replaced by something much more fragile.

Uncertainty.

For months, he had believed he controlled the ending.

He believed money could erase loyalty.

He believed signatures could replace love.

But he had made one mistake.

He thought I was fighting to keep a marriage alive.

I was not.

I was fighting to protect my children.

And that was a battle he had never prepared for.

The investigators entered the room without rushing.

That was what made the moment even more powerful.

They did not need to raise their voices.

They did not need to threaten anyone.

They simply carried the confidence of people who already knew the truth.

Julian stepped backward.

His eyes moved between my attorney and the documents in the investigators’ hands.

“What is this?” he asked.

My attorney placed a folder on the table.

“These are official notices regarding the review of financial records connected to Vance Holdings.”

His father immediately reacted.

“Vance Holdings has nothing to do with this.”

The investigator looked at him calmly.

“We will determine that.”

The room became quiet again.

For years, Julian’s family had built their reputation around control.

They donated to charities.

They hosted expensive events.

They appeared in business magazines.

They convinced everyone around them that they were untouchable.

But behind closed doors, they had forgotten something important.

A perfect image could not erase imperfect actions.

Julian looked at me.

“You planned all of this.”

I held Leo closer.

“No.”

His eyebrows tightened.

“No?”

“I prepared for the truth.”

He laughed once.

A short, bitter sound.

“You think you are better than me because you collected papers?”

I looked at him.

“No.”

I looked at Sienna.

Then at his family.

“I think I am better because I never needed to destroy someone else to feel powerful.”

Nobody responded.

Because the truth was uncomfortable.

Julian had always needed an audience.

He needed people around him who believed his version of events.

He needed his family to support him.

He needed Sienna to admire him.

He needed me to remain quiet.

Without those things, he was just a man who had made choices and now had to face them.

The investigator opened another folder.

“There is also the matter of the custody agreement.”

Julian immediately looked toward him.

“That agreement was signed voluntarily.”

My attorney nodded.

May you like

“It was signed under circumstances that require review.”

Julian’s face hardened.
