Chương 2

“Do not come near her.”

The woman’s face turned angry.

“You think you can protect her from me?”

“Yes.”

The answer came instantly.

The woman reached toward his arm, trying to push past him.

The man caught her movement and stopped her.

The sudden resistance forced her to step backward.

Her eyes widened.

For the first time, she looked genuinely shocked.

The man did not raise his voice.

He did not need to.

“You don’t get to hurt her again.”

The girl stood behind him, holding the pink box with both hands now.

Her breathing slowly became calmer.

The woman looked at the child.

Then at the document.

Then back at the man.

“What did you find?”

The man stared silently.

The question revealed more than any confession could have.

“You’re afraid because you know what’s inside.”

The woman’s lips pressed together.

She said nothing.

The girl looked up at the man.

“Who are you?”

He glanced down at her.

His expression softened slightly.

“I’m someone who should have found you sooner.”

The girl’s eyes filled with emotion.

She had spent so long believing nobody would come.

The man looked back at the elderly woman.

“This ends today.”

The woman’s confidence began to disappear.

The luxury store that once made her feel untouchable suddenly felt like the worst possible place to be exposed.

The man slowly unfolded the white document.

The woman’s face changed before she even saw the words.

And the girl realized the secret hidden inside that paper was bigger than she had ever imagined.

The man slowly unfolded the white document.

The elderly woman watched every movement of his hands.

Her face remained still, but the fear in her eyes became impossible to hide.

The little girl noticed it immediately.

She had been afraid of this woman for a long time, but now she saw something she had never seen before.

The woman was afraid too.

The man held the paper between his fingers and looked directly at her.

“This document has your signature.”

The woman’s jaw tightened.

“That proves nothing.”

The man looked down briefly at the page.

“It proves you knew exactly what you were doing.”

The girl stared at the document.

She could not read the words from where she stood, but she could feel the weight of them.

The woman took another step closer.

“You have no idea what that paper means.”

The man’s expression did not change.

“I know exactly what it means.”

The woman looked around.

The shoppers nearby were slowing down.

Some pretended not to watch, but their eyes kept returning to the confrontation.

The woman lowered her voice.

“You are making a mistake.”

The man folded the document slightly.

“No.”

He looked at the little girl.

“You made the mistake of thinking nobody would protect her.”

The girl’s fingers tightened around the pink box.

She looked down at it.

For a moment, she remembered why she had taken it.

She remembered the conversation she had overheard.

She remembered the things she had discovered.

And she remembered the promise she made to herself.

She would not stay silent.

The elderly woman noticed the girl’s expression.

“You still don’t understand.”

The girl looked up.

“I understand enough.”

The woman’s eyes narrowed.

“You are just a child.”

The girl’s voice shook, but she continued.

“I know.”

She paused.

“But children can still tell when someone is lying.”

The man looked down at her with quiet pride.

The woman looked almost offended by the girl’s courage.

“You think he will always be there?”

The girl said nothing.

The woman continued.

“People leave.”

The words hit harder than the woman expected.

The girl’s expression changed.

For a second, the fear returned.

The man noticed.

He immediately turned slightly toward her.

“Look at me.”

The girl slowly looked up.

“You are not alone.”

Her eyes became watery.

She nodded.

The man turned back to the woman.

“You tried to make her believe nobody would listen.”

The woman remained silent.

“You tried to make her afraid.”

The man stepped closer.

“But she still came forward.”

The elderly woman looked away.

The confidence she carried when she entered the store was gone.

The man opened the document completely.

“This is a copy of the agreement you signed.”

The woman’s eyes moved toward the page.

“This is private.”

“No.”

The man shook his head.

“This is evidence.”

The woman’s breathing became heavier.

The little girl looked between them.

“What does it say?”

The man hesitated.

He did not want to frighten her.

“It says she knew the truth and tried to hide it.”

The girl’s face changed.

She looked at the woman.

“Why?”

The question was simple.

But it carried more emotion than any accusation.

The woman looked at the child.

For a brief moment, something almost like regret appeared on her face.

Then it disappeared.

“You wouldn’t understand.”

The girl whispered.

“Then explain it.”

The woman had no answer.

The man noticed the silence.

“That is what you were afraid of.”

The woman looked at him.

“You think this changes everything?”

“Yes.”

His voice was firm.

“Because now she knows she was right to speak.”

The woman suddenly reached toward the pink box.

The movement was fast.

The girl flinched.

But the man reacted immediately.

He stepped between them.

“Enough.”

The woman stopped.

Her hand remained frozen in the air.

The man’s eyes hardened.

“Not another step.”

The woman slowly lowered her hand.

Her anger returned.

“You have no idea what you are destroying.”

The man looked at her.

“No.”

He glanced at the girl.

“You destroyed that yourself.”

The store became completely quiet.

The little girl looked at the man.

She wanted to believe him.

But years of fear were not erased in a single moment.

“What happens now?”

The man’s expression softened.

“Now we tell the truth.”

The woman gave a bitter laugh.

“You think the truth is always enough?”

May you like

The man looked at her carefully.

“It is when someone has been trying to bury it.”
