Chương 1

"""The little girl sat quietly at the corner of the crowded celebration table, holding the small beige pastry between her tiny fingers as music floated through the decorated room.
Her pink bows trembled slightly with every shaky breath, and her watery eyes moved across the faces of the adults surrounding her.
She was supposed to be smiling on a special day, but something inside her had suddenly changed.
The laughter around her faded into a distant blur as fear slowly covered her innocent expression.
The young boy standing behind her noticed first.
He was only eight years old, dressed neatly in a dark navy suit with a white shirt and bow tie, but his eyes carried a seriousness far beyond his age.
He leaned forward slightly, watching her trembling hands and the way she struggled to hold back tears.
“Are you okay?” he whispered softly.
The little girl did not answer.
She only lowered her head and squeezed the small food item tighter.
The woman in the cream blouse standing across the room immediately saw the change in the child’s face.
Her expression shifted from casual concern to instant alarm.
She pushed through the guests without hesitation, moving quickly toward the table as conversations around her began to slow.
“Don’t scare her… she’s just a child,” the woman said with urgency in her voice.
Several guests turned around.
The sound of her footsteps against the floor seemed louder than the celebration music.
The little girl looked up and saw the woman approaching.
Her lower lip shook as if she wanted to speak but could not find the words.
The woman reached the table and bent down near her, keeping her movements gentle even though panic filled her eyes.
“What happened?” she asked quietly.
The child looked toward the older adults nearby and then quickly looked away.
That small movement told the woman everything she needed to know.
Something had frightened her.
Something had made her feel unsafe.
The boy stepped closer and placed himself near the little girl, his small body trying to become a shield between her and the tension spreading through the room.
“I think she’s scared,” he said.
His voice was soft, but everyone heard him.
The guests stopped pretending not to notice.
The celebration had transformed into a silent room filled with unanswered questions.
Before anyone could respond, another woman entered from the back of the room.
She wore dark burgundy clothing and moved with a sharp, determined expression.
Her eyebrows were lowered, her jaw was tense, and every step showed anger she was trying to control.
“You have no idea what she’s been through,” the woman said.
Her voice cut through the silence.
The cream-blouse woman turned toward her.
“I know exactly what I see,” she replied.
“I see a scared little girl who needs someone to protect her.”
The second woman stepped closer.
The tension between them grew as everyone watched.
The child immediately pulled herself back into the chair.
Her eyes widened when the voices became louder.
The boy looked between the adults, confused and worried.
He did not understand the entire situation, but he understood one thing.
The little girl was afraid.
“Please stop,” he said.
Nobody heard him at first.
The older woman with gray hair slowly walked forward from the other side of the room.
Her dark brown clothing moved as she approached, and the necklace around her neck reflected the warm lights hanging above the party tables.
Her face showed years of emotion, disappointment, and hidden memories.
She looked directly at the child.
Then she looked at the adults surrounding her.
“Look at her,” the older woman said.
“She’s terrified.”
Her voice was loud enough for the entire room.
“She’s not acting.”
“She’s not trying to cause trouble.”
“She’s a child.”
The second woman in burgundy clothing looked away for a moment.
The confidence in her face weakened slightly.
The cream-blouse woman moved closer to the little girl and gently reached for her hand.
The child hesitated.
For a brief second, she looked around the room searching for a reason to trust someone.
Then she slowly placed her tiny hand into the woman’s palm.
The woman’s expression softened.
“I’ve got you,” she whispered.
“You’re safe now.”
The little girl’s eyes filled with more tears.
She finally allowed herself to cry.
The woman carefully lifted her from the chair and held her close.
The child pressed her face against the woman’s shoulder, releasing the fear she had been carrying silently.
The entire room became still.
Even the guests who had been whispering moments earlier lowered their voices.
The boy stood nearby, watching with relief.
He reached out and gently touched the little girl’s arm.
“It’s okay,” he said.
“I’m here too.”
The child slowly looked at him.
For the first time that evening, a small expression of comfort appeared on her face.
The older woman watched them carefully.
Her eyes became emotional as she remembered moments from the past that she had never spoken about.
She knew the child’s fear was not created in a single moment.
Fear like that came from somewhere deeper.
It came from memories.
It came from pain.
The cream-blouse woman continued holding the girl while looking around the room.
She wanted answers, but she wanted the child to feel safe more than anything else.
The second woman finally spoke again, but her voice was quieter.
“You don’t understand what happened before today.”
The cream-blouse woman looked at her.
“Then tell me.”
The room waited.
The woman in burgundy swallowed hard.
She looked at the little girl hiding against the other woman’s shoulder.
Her anger slowly mixed with sadness.
“I thought I was protecting her,” she admitted.
Nobody moved.
“I thought keeping the truth away from her would save her.”
The older woman frowned.
“But hiding pain does not erase it.”
The woman in burgundy looked down.
The little girl listened silently.

She did not understand every word, but she understood emotions.
She understood when adults were hurting.
