Part 2: Her Name Went Unspoken for Years

Not publicly. Not privately. Not even in hushed tones.

It had been concealed along with the truth.

The man's hands trembled as the memory resurfaced—her face, her voice, the night everything concluded. The night he ensured it concluded.

“That’s impossible…” the woman murmured again, but now her voice was faltering.

The girl reached into her coat.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

And retrieved a folded note.

“She said you’d understand.”

The man hesitated.

Then took it.

His fingers unfolded the paper as if it might detonate.

He read the first line—

—and all the color drained from his face.

“No…” he whispered.

The room leaned in, desperate, afraid.

His eyes scanned faster. His breathing ceased.

Because the note didn’t just recount a story.

It provided proof.

Every falsehood. Every concealment. Every secret he had buried to safeguard his empire…

…was documented there.

In her handwriting.

Alive.

“She didn’t die,” he said hoarsely.

The girl tilted her head.

“She said you’d say that.”

The woman stepped back, trembling. “We made sure—”

“Did you?” the girl interrupted quietly.

Silence.

Heavy. Crushing.

The man looked at the girl again—truly looked this time.

At her eyes.

At her posture.

At the locket.

And suddenly…

He comprehended.

“Where is she?” he asked, barely able to speak.

The girl stepped closer.

So close only he could hear her next words.

And when she spoke—

his knees nearly buckled.

Because the past he thought he had buried…

May you like

…wasn’t just alive.

It was waiting.
