Chương 1

"""The little girl sat quietly in front of the enormous white wedding cake, her tiny hands resting on the edge of the decorated table as the room around her shimmered with celebration.

The elegant reception hall was filled with soft golden lights, flowers, laughter, and the gentle sound of guests talking as they admired the newly married couple.

Two-year-old Lily wore a beautiful white flower dress that made her look like a small angel among the rows of carefully arranged wedding decorations.

Her soft blonde hair curled slightly around her face, and her bright blue eyes moved from one person to another with innocent curiosity.

She did not understand the importance of the moment, the expensive decorations, or the hundreds of eyes watching her.

She only knew that the large cake in front of her looked fascinating.

The thick layers of white frosting reflected the warm lights above, and tiny sugar flowers covered every side of the masterpiece.

Behind her stood Emma, the bride, a woman in her early thirties whose happiness had slowly turned into concern as she watched the little girl stare at the cake.

Emma had always been gentle with Lily, but that day she carried a strange nervous feeling she could not explain.

Nearby, Daniel stood in his dark formal suit, greeting guests with a polite smile while constantly looking back toward the child.

He loved Lily more than anything, even though he had never been able to explain why protecting her felt like the most important responsibility in his life.

The guests noticed how carefully the adults watched the little girl, but they assumed it was simply because children required attention at weddings.

No one expected that a small accident involving a wedding cake would uncover emotions and secrets that had been hidden for years.

A guest lifted a phone and began recording the adorable scene because everyone thought Lily was about to enjoy a sweet birthday-like moment during the celebration.

The camera captured her tiny movements as she leaned closer to the cake.

Lily reached one small hand toward the frosting, then stopped as if she was waiting for permission.

Emma smiled softly and stepped closer.

“Be careful, sweetheart,” Emma whispered in her warm American voice.

Lily looked up at her and smiled.

For a brief moment, everything felt peaceful.

Then Lily noticed a small flower decoration near the front of the cake.

She leaned forward slowly, trying to see it better.

The adults around her laughed gently because they thought her curiosity was adorable.

But within seconds, the innocent moment changed completely.

Lily moved too far forward, losing her balance as her tiny body shifted toward the table.

Before anyone could react, her face pressed directly into the thick white frosting.

The room went silent.

The sound of the cake decoration breaking and the soft movement of frosting filled the space for a moment before a shocked gasp spread through the guests.

Lily froze.

Her small hands touched the edge of the table while she tried to understand what had happened.

When she lifted her head, frosting covered parts of her cheeks, nose, and forehead.

Her blue eyes widened with confusion.

She looked around at the adults, not understanding why everyone suddenly looked worried.

Emma immediately stepped forward.

“Oh no, sweetheart… what happened?”

Her voice was loud enough for the nearby guests to hear, but it remained gentle and full of fear for the child.

Lily’s lower lip began trembling.

She looked at the ruined cake, then back at Emma.

The strange expressions on everyone’s faces made her feel even more frightened.

A few seconds later, tears filled her eyes.

She started crying softly, her shoulders shaking as she tried to wipe the frosting away with her small fingers.

Emma reached toward her without hesitation.

“Look at me, you’re okay,” Emma said.

Her eyes showed concern, but she forced herself to stay calm because she knew Lily needed comfort more than panic.

The guests gathered closer, some lowering their phones, others whispering with concern.

Daniel stopped speaking with another guest and immediately walked toward them.

The smile disappeared from his face.

His expression became serious as he saw Lily crying.

He had seen accidents before, but something about seeing this child hurt made his chest tighten.

Emma carefully lifted Lily away from the table.

She placed both hands around the child and pulled her into her arms.

Lily grabbed onto her dress and buried her face against her shoulder.

“I’ve got you,” Emma whispered.

“You’re safe.”

The child continued crying, but her breathing slowly became calmer as she felt the warmth of Emma’s embrace.

The guests watched the scene quietly.

The wedding celebration had changed from laughter to concern in only a few seconds.

Daniel reached them and placed a protective hand near Emma’s shoulder.

His eyes remained focused on Lily.

“Who let this happen?”

His voice was deep and serious, not angry, but filled with worry.

Emma looked at him and noticed something unusual in his expression.

It was not just concern.

It was fear.

For a moment, Daniel looked less like a worried guest and more like someone who had been terrified of losing her.

Emma gently touched Lily’s back.

“She just got scared,” Emma said.

“She needs us to stay calm.”

Daniel looked at the child again.

The frosting on her dress and the tears on her face reminded him of a memory he had spent years trying to forget.

A memory connected to another little girl.

A memory connected to a promise he made long ago.

The wedding guests did not notice the change in his expression, but Emma did.

She had known Daniel for years.

She knew when he was hiding something.

“Daniel,” she whispered.

“What is it?”

He looked away for a second.

“I thought I had more time.”

Emma’s expression changed.

“What does that mean?”

Before Daniel could answer, Lily lifted her head from Emma’s shoulder.

Her crying had slowed.

She looked at Daniel carefully.

Then she reached one small hand toward him.
