Chương 1

"The first thing Daniel heard was the sharp sound of his own footsteps echoing across the hospital floor as he rushed toward the room where his entire life had begun to fall apart.

The sterile hallway lights above him flickered slightly, making the late-night hospital corridor feel colder and more unfamiliar than ever before.

His hands were shaking, but his anger kept pushing him forward.

For three days, he had been searching for answers after his wife Emily was rushed into the hospital under mysterious circumstances.

Every doctor had given him careful explanations, but every explanation felt incomplete.

Something about the way people looked away when he asked questions made him believe someone was hiding the truth.

Daniel had always trusted his instincts, and tonight they were screaming louder than ever.

When he reached the hospital room door, he stopped for only a second.

Through the small glass window, he saw Emily lying on the bed with pale skin, tired eyes, and a fear on her face that he had never seen before.

She was not just scared of what had happened to her.

She was scared of something that was about to happen.

Daniel pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Emily immediately looked toward him, and tears filled her eyes.

"Daniel, please," she whispered.

Her voice was weak, but there was a warning hidden beneath her words.

He ignored the warning because his mind was already focused on the man standing near the window.

A bald man wearing a black suit stood calmly in the corner of the room.

He looked completely out of place among the doctors, nurses, and medical equipment.

His expression was emotionless.

His posture was relaxed.

That calmness made Daniel even more furious.

"Who are you?" Daniel demanded.

The man did not answer immediately.

He simply watched Daniel as if he had been expecting him to arrive.

Daniel stepped closer.

"Why were you here with my wife?"

The bald man finally looked directly into his eyes.

"My name is Victor," he said quietly.

"I think you should ask your wife why I am here."

Daniel turned toward Emily.

Her hands trembled as she pulled the hospital blanket closer around herself.

"Emily, tell me what is happening," Daniel said.

She opened her mouth, but no words came out.

The silence between them felt heavier than any accusation.

Daniel's frustration exploded.

He moved forward aggressively, his shoulders tense and his jaw clenched.

Victor remained still.

"Tell me the truth right now," Daniel shouted.

The words filled the hospital room.

Emily flinched.

Victor slowly raised his hand, trying to stop Daniel from coming closer.

That small movement made Daniel believe even more that something was being hidden.

He pushed forward and shoved Victor with all his force.

Victor's body moved backward from the impact, his shoes sliding slightly against the hospital floor.

For a moment, the room became completely silent.

Emily covered her mouth in fear.

Daniel stood there breathing heavily, his eyes filled with anger and desperation.

He expected Victor to react with rage.

Instead, Victor simply adjusted his suit jacket and looked at him with disappointment.

"You have no idea what you just started," Victor said.

Daniel stared at him.

The confidence in Victor's voice made his anger turn into confusion.

Before Daniel could respond, Victor reached into his pocket and looked toward the floor.

A black smartphone was lying beside the hospital bed.

Daniel had not noticed it before.

Victor walked toward it slowly.

Every step felt deliberate.

Daniel watched as the man picked up the phone.

"What is that?" Daniel asked.

Victor did not answer.

He turned the phone over in his hand and looked at the screen.

Emily immediately became more frightened.

"Victor, don't," she whispered.

That single sentence changed everything.

Daniel looked at Emily.

"Why are you afraid of him showing me a phone?"

Emily looked away.

The answer was hidden in her silence.

Victor walked closer and held the phone where Daniel could see it.

The screen showed a series of messages and images that made Daniel freeze.

His anger disappeared for a moment.

The room felt like it had stopped moving.

The person he trusted most in the world had been keeping something from him.

Daniel looked at Emily with disbelief.

"How long?" he asked.

Emily's eyes filled with tears.

"I wanted to tell you," she said.

"But I was scared."

Daniel shook his head slowly.

He felt like the ground beneath him had disappeared.

For years, he believed he knew everything about his marriage.

He believed he knew every secret, every fear, and every dream they shared.

Now he was standing in a hospital room realizing that the person closest to him had been carrying a hidden truth.

Victor watched silently.

He was not enjoying Daniel's pain.

He looked like someone who had been forced to reveal something painful but necessary.

Daniel looked back at him.

"Who are you really?"

Victor took a deep breath.

"I was someone who tried to warn your wife before it was too late."

Daniel narrowed his eyes.

"Warn her about what?"

Victor looked at Emily.

The fear on her face returned.

"About the people who were trying to destroy your family."

Daniel felt his anger shifting into uncertainty.

He wanted to believe Victor was lying.

He wanted to believe everything was simple.

But the evidence on the phone made that impossible.

Emily slowly reached for Daniel's hand.

He hesitated before letting her touch him.

"I never wanted this to happen," she said.

"Then why did you hide it from me?" Daniel asked.

She closed her eyes.

"Because I knew you would do exactly what you did tonight."

Daniel looked down.

He knew she was right.

He had always reacted first and thought later.

But this time, his anger had uncovered something much bigger than he expected.

Victor placed the phone on the table.

"The truth is not always what you want to hear," Victor said.

Daniel looked at the screen again.

There were more messages he had not seen.
