The Piano Lid Slammed Shut Violently, Startling the Entire Concert Hall
A barefoot little girl froze beside the grand piano, her dirty fingers still hovering above the keys while quiet laughter spread through the wealthy audience.
“Do not touch it.”
The music teacher looked down at her with cold disgust.
The girl quickly pulled her hand back and clutched a tiny broken music charm against her chest.
“I know this song…”
A student whispered loudly from the audience.
“She’s dirty.”
The girl lowered her head as tears filled her eyes beneath the warm golden stage lights.
“You know nothing.”
Then suddenly—
the broken charm slipped from her fingers and tapped against the piano.
One tiny note echoed through the hall.
And in the front row, a blind old composer froze instantly.
His hand tightened around his cane.
“Let her hum.”
Silence swallowed the room.
The frightened girl slowly looked toward his voice… then softly hummed the melody her mother used to sing.
The composer’s face collapsed with emotion.
“That was my daughter’s song…”
Gasps rippled across the audience as tears streamed down his face.
Then, with trembling hands, he reached inside his coat and pulled out the missing half of the broken charm hanging around his own neck.
The two halves clicked together perfectly.
The little girl stopped breathing.
