Supreme Court's 5-4 Ruling Stuns Democrats
Washington D.C. — Cole Allen, a 31-year-old man from Torrance, California, has been arrested after a shooting at the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday evening.
Authorities reported that Allen, armed with multiple weapons, rushed a U.S. Secret Service checkpoint and fired at a Secret Service officer. The officer, who was wearing a ballistic vest, was hit and taken to a hospital for evaluation. Agents returned fire, but Allen was not struck and was also transported to a hospital.
Jeanine Pirro, the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, announced at a press conference that Allen faces two charges: using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon. More charges are anticipated.
Allen, a computer scientist with experience in engineering and game development, studied mechanical engineering at the California Institute of Technology, graduating in 2017. He later earned a master’s degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 2025. Federal Election Commission records indicate he contributed $25 to then-Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 election cycle.
President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and several Cabinet members were attending the dinner. They were escorted from the venue by the Secret Service after the incident. The White House press pool initially remained at the hotel as the situation unfolded.
The shooting occurred in a busy area of the complex typically used for guided tours. The Secret Service had previously investigated and closed the case without identifying a suspect, citing a lack of usable forensic evidence and inconclusive surveillance footage. These new details have reignited public interest in security protocols at high-profile events.
The incident has led to discussions about security measures at large gatherings involving senior government officials. No further information has been released regarding the condition of the injured officer or Allen.
