Representative Omar Attributes $30 Million Disclosure Error to "Discrepancy"
Representative Ilhan Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, has submitted an amended financial disclosure that reduces her previously stated household assets from up to $30 million to a maximum of $95,000. Her office attributes this change to an accounting error, and her lawyer informed the Office of Congressional Conduct that the initial filing was unintentional. This comes as President Donald Trump and House Republicans are calling for scrutiny of the Minnesota Democrat.
The revised filing, which The Wall Street Journal reviewed, indicates that assets held by Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett, are between $18,004 and $95,000. This is a decrease from the $6 million to $30 million range reported in the original 2024 disclosure filed last May.
The two businesses that contributed to the higher initial figures, a Washington venture capital firm and a Santa Rosa winery, are shown in the amended version as having no net value after liabilities are applied.
“The amended disclosure confirms what we’ve said all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire,” stated spokeswoman Jacklyn Rogers, adding that Omar voluntarily corrected the filing once the issue was identified.
According to the Journal, the amendment was submitted in response to a March letter from the Office of Congressional Conduct, an independent body that investigates allegations of misconduct by members.
A lawyer representing Omar wrote to the OCC, stating that the errors were accidental and that “there is nothing untoward, and nothing illegal has occurred.”
The original 2024 report, filed on May 14, 2025, attracted attention because the same businesses had been valued significantly lower a year earlier.
Rose Lake Capital was listed between $1 and $1,000 in 2023, then between $5 million and $25 million in 2024.
The winery, eStCru, increased from a maximum of $50,000 to as much as $5 million during the same period.
Congressional disclosures use bracketed ranges instead of exact figures.
The documents attached to the lawyer’s letter provide a more precise valuation.
A 2025 email between Mynett and his accountant estimates the venture capital firm at $7.9 million and the winery at $1.5 million, with Mynett owning approximately one-third of each.
The amended filing still reports between $102,503 and $1,005,200 in 2024 income linked to those holdings, with Mynett receiving $213,200 in distributions from Rose Lake Capital and $3,000 from the winery.
Omar is correcting the record amidst political pressure from various sources.
In January, Trump stated that the Justice Department is investigating Omar and implied she profited from Minnesota’s extensive welfare fraud scandal.
In early February, Representative James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, requested financial documents from Mynett; after Mynett did not comply, the committee referred the matter to the House Ethics Committee in March.
No criminal charges have been filed against Omar or Mynett, and her office stated on Friday that it has not received any communications from the Justice Department or Republicans threatening investigations.
The legal implications depend on intent.
