Part 2: The Hallway Felt Colder Now, Even Under the Golden Light

The woman stood frozen between the two identical necklaces, her breathing uneven.

Elena’s heart pounded.

“Who are you?” Elena asked softly.

The woman didn’t answer right away.

Then, barely above a whisper:

“Tell me who raised you.”

Elena swallowed.

“She said my parents died… and left me this necklace.”

Silence shattered the air.

The woman took a step forward, her voice breaking.

“That necklace was never meant to leave our family…”

Elena shook her head.

“Then explain this.”

She held the emerald closer.

The woman’s eyes filled with tears she clearly tried to stop.

“I had a daughter,” she whispered.
“She disappeared the night that necklace was stolen.”

Elena’s breath stopped.

The world tilted.

“No…” she stepped back. “That’s not possible.”
