She took out a folded, old piece of paper.
Carefully, she put it on the piano keys.
The man did not move.

The crowd moved restlessly as he stepped back, shaking his head slightly, as if distance could make what was coming disappear.
The girl looked up at him again.
“My mother kept everything,” she said. “Even the things you tried to forget.”

The man’s voice finally broke.
“She… she never came back,” he said.
The girl’s expression became tense—not angry, but painfully calm.
“She did,” she replied. “She just didn’t come back to you.”
A silence heavier than music fell again.
Then she placed her hands back on the piano.
One final chord.
Not soft this time.
Not gentle.
It echoed through the ballroom like a judgment.
The man closed his eyes.
