Ocasio-Cortez Faces Serious Allegations Threatening Her Career

Federal Election Commission records indicate that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., authorized three payments in 2025 to Dr. Brian Boyle, totaling $18,725. These payments were categorized as “leadership training and consulting.” Dr. Boyle is the Chief Psychiatric Officer for Stella, a national network of mental health clinics that provides ketamine-assisted therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and stellate ganglion blocks.
The first payment of $11,550 occurred in March, followed by $2,800 in May, and $4,375 in October. According to Federal Election Commission regulations, campaign funds cannot be used for personal expenses. The “irrespective test” is used to determine if an expenditure is campaign-related or personal.
Paul Kamenar, counsel for the National Legal and Policy Center, stated that the nature of these payments raises questions about compliance. Kamenar remarked, “While I can understand why AOC would spend $18,000 for a shrink whose specialties include narcissistic personality disorders, using her campaign contributions for what appears to be an expense for personal use violates federal campaign finance laws.” He highlighted that Dr. Boyle’s expertise is in psychiatry, not traditional political consulting or leadership training.
Ocasio-Cortez has not yet publicly responded to these emerging questions. Her campaign has previously described the expenditures as legitimate professional services. Critics argue that this classification might not meet the standard required by federal guidelines, especially given Dr. Boyle’s primary role in mental health care.
This issue has garnered attention amidst broader discussions about campaign finance accountability. Proponents of stricter oversight contend that this case underscores the necessity for clearer distinctions between official campaign activities and personal expenses. Those who oppose the scrutiny maintain that members of Congress routinely hire consultants for various services and that these payments fall within permissible uses.
The Federal Election Commission has not initiated a formal investigation into the matter. However, the public disclosure of these payments has led some conservative groups to renew calls for a review of Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign spending practices.
The controversy arises as the congresswoman remains one of the most prominent progressive voices in the House. Ocasio-Cortez has consistently criticized former President Trump and Republican policies, frequently using her platform to advocate for democratic socialist priorities.
Legal experts note that any potential violation of campaign finance rules would necessitate a formal complaint and investigation by the Federal Election Commission, potentially followed by enforcement action. At this stage, the matter is subject to public scrutiny rather than formal legal proceedings.
The payments have also sparked online discussions regarding Ocasio-Cortez’s personal and political image. Some commentators have pointed out the apparent contradiction between her public criticism of wealth and capitalism and the reported use of campaign funds for services that could be interpreted as personal development.
As the story unfolds, both supporters and critics of the congresswoman are closely observing whether the Federal Election Commission or other oversight bodies will take further action. This case serves as the latest example of the intense scrutiny placed on high-profile members of Congress concerning their use of campaign resources.
