One memo explicitly stated: “The FBI assesses domestic violent extremist threats related to the 2020 elections likely will increase.” The documents also outlined strategies the FBI considered, such as expanding confidential human sources, embedding informants, and using aggressive prosecution of even minor offenses as a deterrent.
Critics have long argued that the FBI knew much more than it admitted. Now there is proof: the bureau anticipated the possibility of violence at the Capitol but apparently did not take sufficient preventive action.
