The internal chaos is only making things worse. Democrats are tearing themselves apart over Senate leadership, with Chuck Schumer facing open rebellion. In Maine, Schumer endorsed establishment Gov. Janet Mills, but several progressive senators are backing far-left insurgent Graham Platner despite his baggage. Similar fractures are appearing in Michigan and Minnesota, where radicals are rejecting Schumer’s preferred candidates.
Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-NM) admitted the deeper problem: “Clearly there’s a disagreement of strategy here… The business-as-usual calculation… does not necessarily, in my view, meet the moment.”
