Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar Faces Renewed Calls for Expulsion and Scrutiny
U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is once again facing intensified public criticism from conservative media figures and Republican lawmakers, who are raising questions about past allegations involving her personal relationships, financial disclosures, and legislative actions. Fine stated, “We’re waiting to get the data on the brother marriage thing, which I think is coming. If it turns out that that is actually the reality, will there be a vote on the floor to expel this woman from Congress? Absolutely.”
Fine is also introducing the “Disqualifying Dual Loyalty Act,” legislation that would prohibit members of Congress from holding dual citizenship. He framed the bill as a measure to ensure elected officials maintain sole allegiance to the United States. “The bottom line is that you can’t serve two masters,” Fine said. “If you’re going to serve in the United States Congress, you should serve America ONLY.”
Supporters of the proposal argue that dual citizenship could create conflicts of interest, particularly for lawmakers with access to classified information. Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) has expressed similar concerns, noting potential national security risks associated with divided loyalties.
Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, has maintained that all allegations against her are unfounded and driven by partisan opposition. No formal expulsion proceedings have been initiated in the House, and the dual-citizenship legislation remains in its introductory stage.
