Hakeem Jeffries Faces His Own Epstein Scandal, Creating a Nightmare for Democrats
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) struggled to provide a clear answer when a reporter questioned why Democrats should be trusted regarding the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, especially since one of his caucus members was found texting with Epstein during a 2019 congressional hearing. Jeffries' fumbled response, which offered little beyond evasion, highlighted why Democrats lack credibility on this matter.
For those who need a reminder, the issue involves Democrat Del. Stacey Plaskett, who the Washington Post revealed was exchanging texts with Epstein in real-time during a 2019 House hearing involving former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen. The report indicated that she even adjusted her questions for the anti-Trump witness based on Epstein’s advice.
Unsurprisingly, most media outlets have remained silent about Stacey Plaskett’s communications with Epstein, despite it being a significant political revelation in any reasonable context. After all, this involves a delegate who not only exchanged messages with Epstein during a congressional hearing but also accepted substantial donations from him and initially resisted returning the funds. All of this occurred in the same year Epstein died in prison while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges.
However, while the press appears intent on ignoring the entire incident, one persistent reporter confronted Jeffries about it, and his reaction was telling.
“Why should Americans trust you and House Democrats on the Jeffrey Epstein files when one of your own—Congresswoman Plaskett—was found to be texting with Jeffrey Epstein during a hearing, getting information from him, using that in her questioning during a congressional hearing, at one point he tells her ‘good job’?” the reporter asked.
The House Democratic leader’s non-answer could serve as a prime example of deflection for political science students.
“This is a bipartisan effort to make sure that, consistent with what the survivors have requested, that there’s full and complete transparency and every single predator that may be in those Justice Department files doesn’t escape accountability,” Jeffries stammered.
He made no mention of Plaskett, only offering the hesitant, stumbling speech of someone trying to formulate a thought on the spot. When he couldn't, he resorted to his usual tactic—smirking through an evasive answer and acting as if the question had never been posed.
It's hard to believe anyone ever compared this individual to Barack Obama; regardless of one's opinion of Obama, he could at least construct a coherent sentence. Jeffries, in contrast, struggles to even deflect without tripping over his own talking points.
Speaking of Obama, it's understandable why Hakeem is suddenly reluctant to address Epstein-related questions. A recently discovered email shows a Democratic fundraising group contacting Epstein in 2013 about "Brooklyn’s Barack"—Jeffries himself. You might call him "Brooklyn’s Barack," while others might say "Temu Obama" or "Dollar Store Obama." Take your pick.
The fundraising group urged Epstein—who by then had already been convicted in 2008 for procuring a minor for prostitution and soliciting a prostitute—to get in touch via email or phone to discuss how he might support Jeffries. They even described Jeffries as "an impressive guy" who would be "a progressive voice in New York politics for years to come."
Somehow, it's doubtful Hakeem Jeffries is any more eager to discuss that email than he is to revisit the Plaskett–Epstein texting scandal. What a joke.
