French authorities have now opened a formal investigation into Lang and his daughter for aggravated tax fraud and money laundering, linked to an offshore company in the U.S. Virgin Islands allegedly used to facilitate business with Epstein. Lang’s lawyer claimed the allegations are “inaccurate,” but the damage is done. Government spokesperson Maud Bregeon called the resignation “the only possible decision,” citing both moral and judicial reasons. Even Socialist Party leader Olivier Faure admitted Lang had to step down to “take responsibility” and set an example.
