Nationally, the Democrats’ once-dominant registration advantage has fallen from nearly 11 percentage points in 2020 to just over six points by 2024. Most critically, for the first time since 2018, more new voters registered as Republicans than Democrats in 2024 — with the GOP securing 29% of new registrations compared to the Democrats’ 26%.
